Regardless of what perky fitness instructors tell you with that maniacal glint in their eyes, working out is hard. If you’re a beginner who’s not used to the strain, it’s very difficult to keep coming back to something that makes you achy, sweaty, and just plain uncomfortable. Even when you get used to it and start enjoying yourself more, there are bad days when you just don’t feel like doing anything, let alone exercising. But we all know that the benefits of working out: better health, more stamina, more strength, more energy, and not to mention that shapely, gorgeous body of your dreams. Exercising is simply far too useful and good for us to be ignored, and every single person out there would benefit immensely from doing a little bit each day. So, how can we stick to it? How can we stay motivated this time and not give up on this long fitness journey? Well, we’ve got a few ideas.
Find the right workout
If you think running is really boring, then don’t run. No, not even because it’s really good for you. If you hate the workout, it’s not very likely you’ll be able to talk yourself into doing it very often, so find something that you actually enjoy, or at least something that you don’t mind as much.
Make it easy on yourself
Make your workout plan completely foolproof. You want to make sure there is no room left for excuses, no “I couldn’t make it today because my gym is halfway across the town.” Examine your life and your weekly schedule, make your workouts short enough so lack of time wouldn’t be an excuse, and work out somewhere close to home (or at home). It’s very important to make these kinds of realistic plans instead of diving in headfirst and committing to something you cannot pull off easily in the long run. You might one day reach a point where your fitness becomes a huge part of your life and you spend two hours at the gym every day, but that day is not happening very soon and you need to start this in short increments. It’s a big lifestyle change, so introduce it slowly if you want to create good habits.
Introduce the 5-minute rule
The five-minute rule consists of this: you will always do at least five minutes of your scheduled workout. No matter how tired or busy you are, no matter how lazy you feel, you must exercise for five whole minutes. After that, you’re off the hook. You will either end up deciding to stick through the whole workout, or you will do only those five minutes and at least feel like you’ve done something that day, however small it was.
Get some cute workout gear
This is one of the most useful tricks, especially if your primary goal is to slim down and look hot. What you wear during your workout will have some impact on your performance, but it will also affect your confidence and motivation. Rather than being in shabby old shirts, wear some cute capri workout pants and a pretty crop top in your favorite color. Find something that makes you look and feel great, and it will immediately lift your spirits and make you feel eager to exercise as soon as you put it on.
Exercise more often
Exercising every day can actually be easier than exercising two or three times a week. Let us explain: if you exercise every day, you can make your workouts shorter. They can last 20-30 minutes, and if you do some form of HIIT they’ll be extremely effective. Also, working out every day will actually help you get used to being active more easily, and you’re a lot more likely to fit it into your schedule with no fuss.
